About this event
We've got a Guest Host for this History Hike!
Our own Jack Anderson is a lifelong resident of this area and can give us unique insights on the history of his neighborhood!
The Indiana Dune National Park includes many historic structures that have been preserved for the public to enjoy. Learn the stories behind several of the buildings and a family cemetery on a History Hike in the Indiana Dunes National Park. Meet at the Chellberg Farm parking lot (618 North Mineral Springs Road in Porter) at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, May 20. This is part of the Indiana Dunes National Park, so parking permits are required.
Please arrive on time, because we will carpool to the limited parking available near Jack's house. Jack will guide us around the Swedish Chapel and adjacent graveyard. Some of the earliest settlers in the Indiana Dunes are buried there. Then we will return to the Chellberg lot and hike to the Bailly Homestead, Goodfellows Camp, Bailly Cemetery, and Chellberg Farm.
Check the weather forecast, wear appropriate clothing and durable shoes, and bring your own water. The hiking is easy, with some stairs. Clean indoor toilets are located near the parking lot.
